The presentation day was held last April 3rd – thank you for your strong response and acceptance!.
With over one hundred academia representatives interested in the initiative, the Oracle Academy Event concluded most satisfactorily considering how positively it was assessed by the audience!
The objective of the event was to present in Spain the Oracle Student Campus academic initiative, designed by Oracle Iberia and PUE. The purpose of the initiative is to make it possible for university students and teaching staff to train and qualify on a certifiable and recognised basis in Oracle technologies, including the access to many educational resources.
An event organized by Certiuni, the University Certification Platform, in collaboration with PUE, as technological partner, and Oracle Iberia.
2.5 million students (current figures) in 102 countries are already partaking in this academic initiative! Certiuni, PUE and Oracle Iberia organized this academia-oriented national presentation of their educational programme, being certain that it provides added value to teaching staff and students in the domain of technological knowledge.
Opening speeches by two personalities from the educational realm.
The opening speech was delivered by Mr Segundo Píriz, President of the University of Extremadura and Chairman of CRUE-ICT Sectoral Committee (
www.crue.org
), i.e. the Conference of Presidents of Spanish Universities. Next to take to the floor was Ms Sara Osuna, Deputy Vice-president for Lifelong Learning of the Spanish Distance University - UNED.
Both lecturers, Mr Segundo Píriz and Ms Rosa Osuna, stressed the importance of competence assessment as one crucial aspect in academia. Accordingly, they showed their full support to Certiuni (the University Certification Platform) as a key initiative for the assessment, certification and approval of competences among university students (

Oracle Iberia introduced the current scope of Oracle technologies and how they support academic initiatives oriented to improving the qualification of graduates as ICT professionals in the labour market.
Speakers at the presentation day included Mr Roberto López, Oracle University Iberia Country Leader and Mr Danny Gooris, Senior Manager, Oracle Academy, EMEA. Mr Gooris highlighted Oracle’s support to initiatives taking place in Spain like the Oracle Student Campus programme, oriented to improving the qualification and recognition of Spanish graduates as ICT professionals in the labour market.
These speeches were further supported by Mr Orlando Domínguez, Managing Director at PUE, Proyecto Universidad Empresa, in charge of implementing in academic institutions training and official certification projects like the one designed by Oracle.
PUE presented in detail how to implement the Oracle Student Campus project in universities.
Mr Luis Céspedes, Director for Education at PUE, explained in detail how to integrate the Student Campus project on a co-curricular and/or extracurricular basis, as well as the advantages for universities of adhering to the programme – among which, accrediting as Official Oracle Academy, gaining access to wide training resources and official certificates for which there is a high demand and recognition in the labour market.
Certiuni confirmed its willingness to continue fostering a certification culture as a competitive advantage for universities and university students.
The speakers pinpointed the importance of accrediting knowledge as a way of providing added value to students. In this sense, Mr Francisco J. Martínez and Mr Antonio José Redondo, President and Manager respectively at Certiuni, the University Certification Platform, focused on explaining how the platform was established three years ago with the strong will to foster a certification culture by giving students the opportunity to accredit their competences in IT, languages and participative skills - at officially fixed public prices.
Certiuni’s presentation also covered success stories, such as certification days already held in over 58 universities – which prove that the initiative is quite healthy and future-bound.
Certiuni representatives announced the forthcoming establishment of Fundación Certiuni, a foundation that will help further advance CRUE’s project.

Implementation of Certiuni in two Spanish universities – two national success stories.
Certiuni has been successfully implemented at Universidad Politécnica of Madrid - UPM (case presented by Ms Raquel Portaencasa, Head of Department for Educational Innovation) and at Universitat de les Illes Balears - UIB (case presented by Ms Francisca Latorre Sánchez, Technician at the Onomastics Department). Their speeches were further supported by Ms Rosa Calafat, Director of the Languages Department of UIB, as promoter of the “Bulats” language certification programme, included in the Certiuni platform.

The closing speech of the presentation day focused on the technology that is redefining large data analysis and processing Big Data.
Mr Enrique Martín, Iberia Pre-Sales Director, Oracle, delivered a speech on Big Data, one of the most hyped technology trends nowadays as regards data management. His words confirmed that Big Data has already become a reality as far as its implementation and use by companies is concerned. This means there is an increasing demand for professionals suitably trained in these tools, among which Oracle solutions stand out, being the most used and accessible for universities thanks to the Student Campus initiative.
